Just Sustainability Transition in Tourism: Placing Justice in the Core

Tourism confronts interconnected global crises, posing significant justice challenges to many communities. Disparities between the North and South, power asymmetries, social and environmental vulnerabilities, biodiversity loss, climate change, and historical injustices are some of the pressing issues. Efforts are underway to integrate justice into sustainability discourses, urging a re-evaluation of economic activities in tourism through the lenses of justice and sustainability. Recognising and including diverse communities, experts, genders, and traditional voices is essential for generating new insight on sustainable transformative options. Examining the role of justice in sustainability transitions is crucial for developing theoretical and empirical foundations to guide tourism communities and policy responses. The panel will discuss how this holistic approach can address the complex web of challenges, fostering a more just and sustainable future for tourism.

Lessons from la Corporación Regional de Turismo de la Región de Valparaíso's experience with the UN Tourism QUEST Certification

Regional Tourism Corporation of the Valparaíso Region is a private non-profit entity, being presented and supported by different public and private actors, the corporation is chaired by the governor of the Valparaíso region, Rodrigo Mundaca. Its objective is to enhance and position the region as one of the main tourist destinations nationwide

This webinar invites the program manager at UN Tourism Academy to introduce UN Tourism QUEST which is the UN Tourism quality certification system for destination management organizations (DMOs). Lessons learnt by the Regional Tourism Corporation of the Valparaíso region with this certification will be shared to bridge theory and practice. The panel discussion with representatives of Creative Tourism Network® and SMART Tourism & Hospitality Consulting, the two leading organizations in the field discuss and share the best practices and experiences of sustainable destination management. We are eager to answer your questions.

$Mr. Francisco José Godoy Imperatore is an agricultural engineer from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, specializing in oenology. With more than 15 years’ experience in the planning and management of public-private institutions, he has worked in different wineries in Chile and abroad. He was general manager of the Casablanca Wine Route, where among other achievements he helped develop the \'Valparaíso-Casablanca Valley\' as part of the Great Wine Capitals, a select group of 10 wine capitals worldwide. He currently serves as general manager of the Regional Tourism Corporation of Valparaíso, a position he has held since 2019. Among the most significant challenges that have been faced by the Corporation are: the preparation and implementation of the Valparaiso Strategic Plan for Regional Tourism Development (2021-2025); and obtaining UNWTO QUEST certification as a Destination Management Organization for the Valparaíso Region.$	Francisco José Godoy Imperatore Speaker/Panelist

Arteaga\'s expertise encompasses hotel management, destination development, sustainable tourism, and digital transformation, demonstrating his innovative approach to the industry.<br/><br/>He notably represents Green Destinations in Panama and the Dominican Republic, acts as a spokesperson for UN Tourism Academy programs, and under his leadership, SmArt has become an affiliated member of UN Tourism. These roles underline his dedication to sustainable tourism globally. $Davoud with 15 years of experience as a General Manager has a demonstrated history of working in the Aviation, Travel & Tourism industry. He has been a PhD candidate at the University of Avignon in France. His areas of expertise are Travel Technology, API integration, E-Tourism, Tourism Loyalty Club, Tourism Marketing, Tourism Digital Marketing, and Airline marketing.
