Backpacker Sustainability Proclivity for Regional Tourism Development

Backpacker tourism has significant impacts on marginalized communities. Many studies report backpackers’ unsustainable behaviors worldwide in local and regional areas.  To overcome this deteriorating situation, this webinar focuses on how tourism stakeholders can create an enabling environment that promotes the intentional behaviors of backpackers, harnessing their sustainability for the benefit of regional communities in Asia, Africa, and the Pacific. The webinar will incorporate insights from a seasoned sustainability consultant and scholars, presenting context-relevant and practical strategies that promote a sustainable lifestyle among backpackers for community development. Inspired by Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 12.A, the primary objective is to create an "enabler" toolkit, a "sustainabler", designed to empower these travelers to act deliberately by promoting regional cultures, products, and job opportunities.
