Dr. Thomas Bausch is Professor in the Department of Tourism at Munich University of Applied Sciences, Germany. He served as director of the Alpine Research Institute in Bavaria for 25 years and the last five years as director for the Competence Center Tourism and Mobility in South Tyrol of Italy. His research focuses on tourism impact on the quality of life in alpine rural areas. He is the author of strategy papers for the EU Alpine space program. |

Poverty Alleviation and Recurrence: Paradox of Rural Tourism
Much has been presented on the blessing or blight of rural tourism. This webinar is on the paradoxical role of rural tourism in moving rural communities out of poverty and potentially causing them to fall back to poverty. As the world-renowned scholars and experts in rural and small community tourism, the moderators and speakers will illuminate how and where rural and small community tourism has succeeded and/or failed in alleviating poverty and what need to happen for it to play a sustainable role in poverty alleviation and other development goals.
